Description
In this letter from James Carroll to his wife Jennie Carroll sent from Camp Columbia Cuba, where he is stationed for the United States Yellow Fever Commission, Carroll laments that Jennie, and the rest of the family are sick with "the grip". He asks Jennie to tell Mabel that he received her letter and that he will be home in two weeks. Additionally, he asks her to tell the boys that he will inspect their teeth for cleanliness when he returns and will give the one with the cleanest teeth a prize. He describes a trip to two Spanish fortresses, El Morro and La Cabana. Additionally, he describes time that he spend with Dr. and Mrs. Bispham, and Dr. and Mrs. James. He asks Jennie not to say anything about what he wrote to her last night. Finally, he informs her that a squadron of English ships are due to arrive tomorrow in the harbor and he hopes to see the doctors from the ships in camp.
