Description
Unsigned colored lithograph attributed to Charles Emile Jacque (1813-1894) ; number 15 in the series called “Les Malades et les Medecins" (The sick and the medical doctors). The image depicts a dentist pulling a tooth from a man who is visually in distress, while a man standing behind them pours liquid from a pitcher into a glass. Published in the 19th C. French periodical “Le Charivari" (exact issue unknown, but likely c. 1840). Source: Piperno collection ; original piece measures 50 X 33 cm.
