Description
This bound volume, organized by William S. Pinkney, School of Letters class of 1860, contains his matriculation ticket for the 1856-1857 academic year signed by Dean Reverend E.A. Dalrymple. The following pages include academic catalogs, known as registers, for the years 1855-1856, 1856-1857, 1857-1858, 1858-1859, and 1859-1860. The pages between the registers include notes about the students and faculty of the school; there are additional notes in the registers indicating deaths and other life events of the faculty and students. Following the 1859-1860 Register there are newspaper clippings about the 1860 commencement. These clippings are hard to read.
The volume also contains the Annual Commencement Program for the School of Letters dated June 26, 1860 and the Constitution and By-Laws of the Literary Society of the University of Maryland dated 1859. Following the Constitution there are notes on the Literary Society officers, members, and history.
The volume was donated by Wirt A. Duvall, University of Maryland School of Medicine Class of 1888 and faculty member.
