How to leverage your EAP for a mentally healthy workplace: What leaders need to know and do. Benefits Magazine, 60(4), 16-23. [International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans]http://hdl.handle.net/10713/20937As benefits managers and consultants explore how to enhance their approach to mental health solutions, we offer advice garnered from the perspective of leaders (CEOs, business owners, managers, and directors) in a new research study. Our survey found many leaders take time away from business matters to deal with problems related to their employee’s stress and mental health. Paradoxically, they are not always aware of how to take advantage of the most offered voluntary health benefit for such problems--Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs). EAPs remain under-appreciated by many employers. Our survey of 113 leaders in New York State suggests guidelines for mental health leadership, ways to engage the EAP, and promote mental health and substance use prevention.1. Introduction. 2.
