Abstract
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into nursing education is essential for preparing the workforce for the ever-changing landscape of healthcare. This presentation describes a strategic framework based on the "5 Rights of AI in Healthcare" (Ross, Freeman, McGrow, Kagan, 2024). It focuses on an approach to integrate AI into nursing education. The primary goal is to enhance faculty knowledge, skills, and application of the use of AI tools by nursing faculty. By leveraging AI tools, faculty can enrich learning activities and improve student outcomes. This approach aims to prepare faculty to effectively integrate AI into their teaching practices, fostering a more dynamic and responsive educational environment. This framework suggests the use of evidence-based and pedagogically sound strategies to incorporate AI into curriculum. This includes selecting appropriate AI tools, designing effective learning activities, and continuously assessing impact through formative and summative evaluation methods. By adopting a systematic approach, faculty can ensure that AI integration is both effective and sustainable. Providing faculty with the necessary training and resources to effectively teach AI concepts is crucial. Professional development programs, collaborative projects, and partnerships with AI experts establish faculty support in gaining required expertise. This enables faculty to confidently incorporate AI into their teaching and learning activities. Ensuring the accuracy and relevance of data and information used in AI education is also essential. Faculty training in information management practices, including privacy, security, and bias mitigation helps maintain the integrity of the educational content. Ethical guidelines and safeguards protect students and faculty from potential risks associated with AI. Promoting transparency, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making in all AI-related educational activities should be emphasized. By applying the framework of The Five Rights of AI in Nursing Education, faculty can effectively integrate AI thereby enhancing their competencies and preparing the nursing workforce for an AI-enhanced healthcare environment.
