Abstract
This is a set of slides presented by one of the EAPA Staff while moderating a Wednesday Wellness discussion. Shannon begins by reviewing some of the current statistics about suicide: that it was the 11th leading cause of death in the US in 2022, with annual deaths reaching 49.449 (US). Suicidal rates have steadily increased since 2022, particularly among middle-aged men, First Responders, and Veterans. The economic cost of suicide and self-harm in the US is estimated at $510 billion annually. Each suicide incident costs around $ 1.3 million, including lost productivity and medical expenses. Common risk factors are reviewed, and then various strategies for preventing suicides are offered while also encouraging the audience to provide vignettes from their clinical experience
