Abstract

Fostering environments of inclusivity, cohesion, and coherence is paramount in the digital age. The Covid-19 aftermath underscores challenges and need for prioritizing human connection and healthcare worker resilience. A human-centered approach is essential for safe, effective, and patient-centered care. We will demonstrate digital age translation and application of expressive arts through technology. The Office of Nursing Services (ONS) developed innovative and effective solutions to connect one of the largest workforces in healthcare for 2023 Nurses Month. Producing a stock image library of Veteran Health Affairs (VHA) nurses at work; an album "The Way Back: Songs of Healing by VA Veteran Nurses", obtaining screening rights to The American Nurse film; and a 31-day virtual conference are examples how VHA Nurses participated in transformative opportunities embodying mission, priorities, and strategic enablers. Embracing transformational thinking cultivates culturally competent workforces capable of navigating the complexities of technology while maintaining compassionate care among digital immigrants and natives. This presentation illustrates how human connection in person-person and person-technology interactions foster thriving healthcare and education systems, a sense of belonging, and recognition among nursing professionals. Baylor School of Nursing (2022) described blending technology and personal interaction to enhance relational experiences and to improve outcomes. Research findings demonstrate strong technology solutions open bidirectional channels to experience enhanced opportunities for self-expression, connection, and intimacy (Simpson, 2020). We will demonstrate translating and applying similar approaches to increase nursing staff engagement with peers and leadership. Translating lived experience of staff into the context of the larger organizational narrative created cuttingedge results in historic staff engagement, including a 453% increase in unique attendees and a 600% increase over 2022 in peak unique visitor intranet views. Leveraging multimedia platforms with expressive arts enhances engagement. These engagement opportunities promoted civility and allowed staff to connect their personal story to the larger organizational narrative. The centrality of the human experience in healthcare relationships cannot be overlooked. The demand for state-of-the-art technology and user-centered design continues to rise. Institutions that fail to adapt risk falling behind in meeting expectations and achieving desired outcomes. Prioritizing human-centered interaction is essential for ensuring quality outcomes and nurturing a compassionate workforce.
