Abstract
This Enrichment seminar will cover the overarching goals of the University of Maryland-Institute for Health Computing (UM-IHC) are to leverage next-generation analytics (i.e. artificial intelligence, network medicine, others) to decrease disease burden and improve wellness among all Maryland citizens by focusing on health equity and, in doing so, stimulate public-private partnerships in the life sciences sector. The UM-IHC seeks to transform the healthcare paradigm by using data science to build a proactive system defined by early disease detection, greater opportunity for patient engagement in health care, and deployment of treatment interventions that is efficient and effective. This approach aims to address existential problems that plague current health care systems, which are costly, inefficient, and often biased. This presentation will provide an overview of the UM-IHC goals and some early evidence of progress.
