Abstract

Part I: Accelerated Program Background: This proposed project aims to address the urgent and current nursing workforce needs of Maryland hospitals by implementing an Accelerated Associate of Science Degree Nurse Program. Objectives: This program aims to address the NSPII initiative (1) To increase pre-licensure registered nursing enrollments and graduates who will then practice in Maryland hospitals. Methods: To support this initiative, the project plan is to provide a path for second-degree non-nursing students to attain a Registered Nurse (RN) license within 12 months. Eligible Students will transfer in the first 34 pre-requisite courses and complete the last 36 nursing credits in 4 12-week block semesters required for graduation. The curriculum of this program will mirror the current fully approved and accredited ASN 2- year program, which continues to have high-level first-time NCLEX-RN pass rate success. Graduated students have the opportunity to continue their education with our partnered programs for RN-BSN-MSN. Part 2: Cecil College Academic Progression in Nursing Initiative NSPII Implementation Grant Background: The purpose of this project is to implement a program to address the current needs of nursing students at Cecil College, by engaging in the following initiative identified by NSPII: To advance the education of students and RNs to BSN and MSN in the state. There is an ongoing need for consistent academic progression programs that include accurate information for students to make sound decisions for developing a plan for completing their Bachelor of Science (BSN) or Masters of Science (MSN) degree in nursing. Students are also challenged with developing the essential skills necessary for success in nursing school. Concern about success in an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program creates more challenges for students wishing to pursue their BSN or MSN in an Associate to Bachelor’s (ATB) progression program. Objectives: The goal of the program is to provide solutions for overcoming historic challenges, ultimately increasing the number of students earning BSN or MSN degrees. Methods: Cecil College has been engaged in an Academic Progression collaborative program with Harford Community College over the past five years to assist ADN students in their efforts to find the best program as they work to advance and complete their BSN or MSN degrees on time. Conclusion:Cecil College is seeking funding for an Academic Progression in Nursing Initiative to increase the number of students that plan to complete a BSN or MSN in our ATB program.
