Abstract

Our survey study was designed to better understand where, how and why EAPs are employing Artificial Intelligence (AI) at their organizations and vendor businesses. We conducted an online self-report survey. We collected data from 222 survey respondents including a mix of embedded internal staff, external vendor and hybrid model programs situated in a diverse range of workplaces and practice settings. Voices of EAPs were represented in the study from 25 countries. There is a low level of current AI use within the EAP global community. There is a widespread belief that AI will have a transformative impact as 78% of total sample expect AI to have an increasingly important impact on the EAP field in the future. Navigating this future will require more attention to all of these issues and continued exploration by EA providers and leadership from our industry professional organizations to provide guidance and training.. Of the 222 total sample, 13 people indicated membership in APEAR and another 6 people indicated they lived in a country located in the Asia Pacific region. This Asia Pacific focused group had 19 people. The other remaining 203 respondents was used as a comparison group. Multi-organizational membership was observed for this group. AI use was higher among the EAPs in the Asia Pacific group. EAPs in the Asia Pacific group were more connected to using AI applications when matched to the comparison group. The small sample of 19 people from the Asia Pacific region had a profile for AI that was slightly higher in current and future use and for more positive overall emotional tone about AI in EAP field. But it was similar on most of questions in the study when examined next to rest of the respondent sample.
