Description
Undated, but believed to be c. 1780-1785. Engraved by Amad Gabrieli (Amedeo Gabrielli), after a drawing by Carlo Paroli; includes captions in Italian as well as an alternate French title L’Arracheur de Dents beneath the image. The painter of the original image was the Italian Francesco Maggiotto. The image depicts a man sitting on a makeshift stage, getting a tooth pulled by a man standing behind him. In the background, there is a monkey trying on a hat and a picture of the dentist hanging on the wall. Original piece measures 51 X 36 cm. From the Piperno collection.
