Abstract
This was a poster presentation at the 2025 EAPA Institute and Expo - San Francisco. It presented on Japan’s mental health leave system and the workplace and clinical supports that aid employees in returning to work. The number of employees on sick leave due to mental health disorders in Japan has been increasing annually. In the fiscal year 2022, 13.4% of employees either took continuous sick leave for over a month or resigned due to mental health issues. While 32.5% of companies in Japan recognize the need for sick leave due to illness or injury, employees can receive up to 18 months of salary compensation through the social insurance system, providing time for recovery. Furthermore, various support systems are in place for employees returning to work, with rework systems being a key example.
