Abstract
Our survey study was designed to better understand where, how and why EAPs are employing Artificial Intelligence (AI) at their organizations and vendor businesses. We conducted an online self-report survey. We collected data from 222 survey respondents including a mix of embedded internal staff, external vendor and hybrid model programs situated in a diverse range of workplaces and practice settings. Voices of EAPs were represented in the study from 25 countries. Subgroup of 33 respondents as member of IAEAPE (n = 24) and 9 non-members who worked at EAPs in educational university settings. All of them are internal model programs embedded inside educational institutions. We explored programmatic differences in key results among the education specific sample. There is a low level of current AI use within the EAP global community. Our respondents reported a diverse range of potential operational, language-based and clinical applications. However, EAPs in Education were more critical of AI applications than the comparison group. This difference in emotional disposition remains to be understood. There were also differences between the two groups in age (older) and CEAP status (more). There is a widespread belief that AI will have a transformative impact as 78% of total sample expect AI to have an increasingly important impact on the EAP field in the future. Navigating this future will require more attention to all of these issues and continued exploration by EA providers and leadership from our industry professional organizations to provide guidance and training.
