Letters and meeting minutes on intent to dissolve the Auxiliary of University of Maryland Hospital, Inc. 1998
Description
Includes four documents related to the decision to dissolve the Auxiliary of the University of Maryland Hospital, Inc. 1) Letter dated March 2, 1998 from Elizabeth Robinson, President of the Auxiliary from 1996-98 to Morton I. Rapoport, M.D., the President and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Maryland Medical System stating that "It is our desire to proceed in an orderly manner to relinquish our responsibility for the Gift Shop and to distribute our remaining assets in a mutually agreeable way. Our goal is to close the Gift Shop books by June 30, 1998, the end of our fiscal year, and to complete any and all remaining tasks by the end of fiscal year 1999." 2) Letter dated March 2, 1998 is from Elizabeth Robinson to all members of the Auxiliary and copied to Morton I. Rapoport, M.D. The letter informs members of the decision to dissolve and states the reason: "A dwindling membership has made it impossible for the Board to continue the demanding task of operating the Gift Shop. It is difficult to admit that after 111 years of service, the Auxiliary no longer has the kind of membership needed to function effectively. In recent years, calls for membership to help with fund raising activities or with the preparation of Holiday Baskets for the patients have resulted in little or no response." 3) Minutes from a special meeting of the Auxiliary that took place on February 20, 1998. Members present were Elizabeth R. Robinson, Lorraine G. Fiset, Nancy R. Brown, Jacquelyn Johnson, Ann Virginia Rasmussen, and June Winkler. The minutes state that: "After some discussion it was unanimously agreed to pursue the dissolution of the Auxiliary but with no firm time line as we don't know what will be involved." 4) Letter dated May 2, 1998 from Lorraine G. Fiset, Vice-President of the Auxiliary, to Ms. Sylvia SmithJohnson, Senior Director-Operations of the University of Maryland Medical Center requesting a meeting to discuss liquidation of the assets of the Gift Shop.Keyword
