Dr. Civin is a pioneer in cancer research who is known internationally for developing a way to isolate stem cells from other blood cells. The founding director for the University of Maryland’s Center for Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine, he has received wide recognition for his groundbreaking 1984 discovery of the CD34 antibody, which has had a major impact on the field of blood research.
