    Description
John Hunter, engraved and published in 1788 by William Sharp, from the portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds. In addition to being one of the greatest surgeons in the history of medicine, Hunter also secured his place in dental history by means of his great work “Natural History of the Human Teeth,” in which he advanced the first scientific study of the teeth as anatomical structures. He was the first to classify them as cuspids, bicuspids, incisors, and molars, and he developed appliances to correct malocclusion. Original piece measures 51 X 39 cm.
