The patient presented in the 2024 Historical Clinicopathological Conference was Siddhartha Gautama, more commonly known as Buddha. There is very little definitive evidence of Buddha's medical history; it is believed he lived a mostly healthy long life. Sometime in his 80s he became ill while preaching in northeast India. It is possible this illness was dysentery. During this illness, Buddha predicted his death in three months; yet he continued to travel extensively. Buddha's terminal illness began following a meal prepared for him by a metalworker; after which he became violently ill. Presenter's final diagnosis: Food Poisoning or "necrotizing enteritis from Clostridium Perfringens—toxins from pork."Rights/Terms
