First President of the United States, George Washington is the focus of the 2023 Historical Clinicopathological conference. After a five hour horseback ride through rain, hail and snow, on Thursday, December 12, 1799, Washington woke up the next morning with a sore throat. The follow Saturday, Washington awoke feeling unwell and was unable to speak and having difficulty breathing. Washington's health continued to decline as he was monitored by three physicians. Washington, 67 years old, died later that night. He was diagnosed with cynanche trachealis (inflammation of the tonsils, throat and/or trachea). Presenters' final diagnosis: EpiglottitisRights/Terms
