Untitled, but believed to be called “The Examination” ; undated but likely early 20th Century. Facsimile of an original watercolor by Trilussa, the pseudonym of Carlo Alberto Salustri, renowned Italian poet and journalist who also created many satirical works of art related to dentistry. Printed by Arti Grafiche, Panetto & Petrelli, Spoleto ; Depicts a dentist wearing extremely prominent eyeglasses, peering closely into the wide mouth of a very corpulent woman patient whose opened jaws seem to threaten the safety of the dentist’s exaggerated jutting nose. Bears caption “Caricatura de Trilussa” ; Trilussa was a close friend of Dr. Arrigo Piperno of Rome, from whose collection we acquired this and several other Trilussa works. Original piece measures 17 X 24 cm.en_US
