On March 27, 2020, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Social Work, Continuing Professional Education Office aired a 90-minute webinar on using mental health apps in social work practice. Speakers included Martha Neary, MSc (Project Manager, PsyberGuide, University of California, Irvine) and Stephen Schueller, PhD (Assistant Professor, Psychological Science, University of California Irvine). The webinar was moderated by Jodi Jacobson Frey, PhD, LCSW-C, CEAP (Professor, School of Social Work, University of Maryland). The webinar focused on how to identify and evaluate apps for mental health social work practice with diverse populations. Benefits and limitations of sample apps, in addition to resources to help evaluate programs were discussed. Cultural considerations were also presented with regard to how to evaluate apps for various client populations.
