Neglect is the most prevalent form of child maltreatment. Although the morbidity and mortality associated with it are significant, child neglect has attracted relatively little attention from professionals, the media, and the public. This article focuses on unmet, basic needs of children, particularly with regard to health care. In addition to defining neglect, the article discusses incidence, etiology, various forms of medical neglect, and principles for evaluation and management.en_US
