Abstract

A critique of a 2023 United Kingdom survey study by William Fleming that claims to have found a lack of efficacy of individual mental health interventions on employee well-being. This adverse conclusion was widely reported in the business and popular press as it is the opposite of decades of other research findings. Severe methodological flaws are identified that render the conclusions made by the study author to be an illogical overreach that goes well beyond what the data actually can say. In contrast, references are provided for several other exemplary published studies that rigorously evaluate EAP counseling effectiveness using longitudinal and quasi-experimental study designs with all of them providing more credible evidence of effectiveness.
