Description
An undated black-and-white etching by Francisco Goya, representing Plate 33 from his renowned satirical series "Los Caprichos". The print satirizes charlatanism and dental care, depicting a standing quack practitioner or "Count Palatine" wearing a large powdered wig and an embroidered coat as he forcefully pulls a tooth from a man who is gripped in pain. On the lower left, another distressed patient leans completely forward, vomiting or weeping into his hands, while a third figure sits on a bench to the right with his back turned, hunched over in agony. In the background, a dark shelf or stepped platform is lined with various apothecary bottles and jars. The plate number "33." is printed in the upper right corner, and the elegant cursive Spanish title along the bottom margin reads, "Al Conde Palatino." (To the Count Palatine). Original piece measures 22 X 15 cm.
