Description
Copy of an engraving which was commissioned by the American Dental Journal, circa 1912 ; reference sources attribute the engraving to H. B. Hall, from a photograph. There is this published description -- “Dr. James McManus, venerable dentist of Hartford, Connecticut, has kindly sent your editor, Dr. B. J. Cigrand, many noteworthy illustrations and tokens relating to the discovery of anesthesia, and the American Dental Journal has cheerfully gone to the expense of having a most beautiful steel engraving made of Dr. Horace Wells, and engraved the latter’s signature under a most classic face.” -– American Dental Journal, December 15, 1912, page 268. Original piece measures 51 X 36 cm.
