Description
A powerful black-and-white etching by Francisco Goya, representing Plate 12 from his famous satirical series "Los Caprichos". Set against a stark, pitch-black night background, the image depicts a visibly terrified woman averting her gaze and shielding her face with a white cloth while reaching up to pull teeth from the mouth of a deceased man hanging by a rope from a gallows. The dead man's hands are bound in front of him, and his body leans limply forward over a stone wall or platform. The plate number "12." is printed in the upper right corner, and the cursive Spanish title printed along the bottom margin reads, "A caza de dientes." (Out hunting for teeth). Original piece measures 32 X 22 cm.
