Description
Two nearly identical versions of the same engraving, but with slight variations in engraved lines and coloration, mounted together on a single matboard. Exact date unknown, but possibly 18th Century German. Depicts Saint Apollonia holding dental forceps with an extracted tooth in her right hand and a martyr's palm in her left hand. The name "S. Apollonia" appears beneath the main image. Also includes an inscription which reads "I. Busch, A.V.," which most likely is the Latin form of Johann Busch, Augsburg, Germany. Original pieces each measure 10 X 7 cm.
