Description
Undated reproduction of a miniature contained in the Book of Hours of Estienne Chevalier, created by Jean Fouquet between 1452 and 1460. The theater-like scene depicts Saint Apollonia suffering her brutal martyrdom at the hands of several executioners. In the foreground, two figures support a banner that features a decorated capital letter "B" in one panel, and an illumination including the word "Pax" in another panel. Three shields emblazoned with the words "Maistre Estienne Chlr" also appear in the foreground. Original piece measures 15 X 11 cm.
