Description
In this letter from James Carroll to his wife Jennie Carroll sent from Camp Columbia Cuba, where he is stationed for the United States Yellow Fever Commission, he describes personal financial transactions and offers advice about a dispute with their neighbors at home. A mention is made of the Mosquitoes [that he presumably suspects transmit Yellow Fever] without providing much detail but he asks Jennie not to mention "the mosquitoes to any one because it is to be kept a profound secret." He also speaks of meeting with Dr. Reed. Carroll discusses at length a recent trip to the city and the current weather conditions in Cuba. Additionally, he mentions that he includes a copy of the obituary for Dr. Jesse Lazear, but it is not at present with this letter.
