Description
The 2013 conference reviewed the wounding and subsequent death of Stonewall Jackson. In this case of “friendly fire” the Confederate general was accidentally struck by 3 bullets fired by his own men. He sustained two wounds in his left arm and one in his right palm. Thus began a week-long decline in his health that included amputation of his left arm, increasing pain in his side, intermittent bouts of nausea and fever, and eventually death. Included are Jackson’s medical history, detailed description of his treatment, and account of his final days. Dr. DuBose identifies the fatal illness as either pneumonia or multiple pulmonary emboli.
