Description
Kathy Strauss is a staff member in the School of Medicine.
These are monotype prints. The first one (called Infectivity 4) is of Coronavirus with the inked amino acid sequence of the S1 (Spike) protein, and spikes embroidered in green. The second (called Fragile) is a monotype of a spine with an inked figure with red embroidery. They are done on mulberry paper.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Historical Collections Department of the HS/HSL solicited personal narratives, artwork, photographs, etc. from UMB Community members to document their experiences during the crisis. The project was titled, “UnMasking a Pandemic: Stories from UMB during COVID-19.” This is a piece received through this project.
