Abstract
Study of the training provided to employees onsite at their workplaces from a national external vendor of employee assistance program (EAP) benefits to thousands of employers. Data on evaluation of the trainers who delivered a variety of topics during 1997, 1998, and 1999 (n > 53,000 participants in trainings). Psychometric data analysis results were presented for a 5-item scale to evaluate the quality of individual trainers (alpha = .92; inter-item correlations all r > .60). On average across the 5 items; 45% rated as excellent; 40% very good; 13% good; 2% fair and 1% poor. Other data from over 3,500 employees who evaluated 190 different training events in the year 1999 for overall satisfaction and impact on personal and work outcomes. Results of 95% would recommend the training to others in the organization. How much learned from the presentation: 24% a lot; 44% fair amount; 31% reinforced what I already knew; 1% nothing new. 85% agreed the training was a valuable use of time and money. Outcomes of training were assessed with a standardized seven-item survey tool collected at the end of each training. Results for Personal Impact: decision-making (68%), stress (61%), health and well-being (57%); Work Impact: morale (64%), productivity (54%), commitment (48%), absenteeism (31%).
