Description
A nationwide survey of 473 employee benefits managers in the United States (random sample) was conducted to address the following questions: 1) Do benefits managers think their employees have concerns in various areas that correspond to physical, psychological, and social needs?; 2) Are benefits services that respond to these various concerns currently being offered in company benefits or will they be added in the future?; 3) Do benefits managers think such services help to improve employee performance and to control overall health care costs? Conclusion: A profile of the current state of American employee benefits services was obtained for 17 specific kinds of EAP-related services. Money management, family relationships, work, and daily life hassles are believed to be as important to employees as the traditional benefits area of physical health. Most companies are responding to these needs by offering services in these areas. Most managers also feel that these "biopsychosocial" services can boost employee performance and cut health care costs.
