Description
This 1984 White Paper presents an overview of how to approach conducting research in the police community. The project was conducted by two authors who worked in the New Jersey State Police Training facility, and they carefully describe the various viewpoints that need to be considered when conducting research regarding alcohol, drug abuse, and mental disorders within police organizations. The analysis includes relevant considerations for several stakeholders, including the research team, the project staff, and the organization. Following the detailed description of these viewpoints, recommendations for ethical and valid research in sensitive workforces are presented.
Presented at the National Occupational Research Conference on Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Disorders at the Worksite in September, 1984
