Description
An undated black-and-white satirical etching depicting a humorous scene between a woman and a man dealing with a toothache. At the center of the composition, a woman dressed in a large, highly decorative period ballgown and an elaborate ruffled headpiece leans forward, tenderly cradling the jaw and face of a man standing beside her. The man is attired in a floor-length buttoned robe or cassock and a distinctive wide-brimmed hat, his expression suggesting discomfort as he rests one hand against his chest.
The print features the series title “Busby’s Humorous Etchings” in the upper right corner of the framed illustration and the inscription “Etch’d by Busby from a French Design” along the lower inner border. Cursive text centered directly beneath the image frame reads “Tooth ach, dear!”. An Italian inscription printed along the lower left margin roughly translates to: “From a rare flying print from the collection of Prof. Arrigo Piperno. Homage from the Director of ‘La Stomatologia’,” while a small printer's mark for Arti Grafiche, Panetto & Petrelli, Spoleto appears in the bottom right corner.
