Description
Copies of four different works, described in accompanying documentation as belonging to the Wessler Collection at the Royal School of Dentistry in Stockholm. Image number 073 -- believed to be a 15th Century colored woodcut, depicting Saint Apollonia holding dental forceps with an extracted tooth in her right hand, and placing her left hand on the swollen cheek of a toothache sufferer ; image number 074 -- believed to be taken from an 18th Century prayer book, depicts Saint Apollonia in aristocratic dress, crown and necklace, holding a martyr's palm in her left hand and dental forceps with an extracted tooth in her right hand. The name "S. Appollonia" appears beneath the main figure ; image number 075 -- believed to be from the earliest known picture of Saint Apollonia, found in a 14th Century Dominican breviary. In addition to a prayer book in her hands, she also holds her characteristic dental forceps with extracted tooth ; image number 076 -- exact origin unknown, but most likely a woodcut, perhaps circa 16th Century, depicting Saint Apollonia holding a martyr's palm in her left hand and dental forceps with an extracted tooth in her right hand. The name "S Apollonia" appears beneath the main figure, and the faces and wings of four cherubs adorn the corners within the frame. Our original pieces in this set of four reproductions each measure 30 X 21 cm.
