Description
In this letter from James Carroll to his wife Jennie Carroll he describes life in Cuba at Camp Columbia where he was stationed for the United States Yellow Fever Commission. He relates his experiences trying to communicate with a barber to get his hair cut given the language barrier. Carroll also describes two acts of violence that had occurred in Cuba recently, one that was a police involving shooting and an accidental stabbing. He provides a thorough description of the police attire and demeanor. Carroll also describes in great detail the rituals of a funeral that both he and Dr. Jesse Lazear attended.
